Founded in 2018, The Architecture Story (TAS) is a Chennai-based design studio dedicated to spatial storytelling. From urban interventions to intimate dwellings, we design responsive environments that blur the boundaries between the built and the natural.
We create spaces and objects that balance form and feeling. Our work encompasses architecture, interior design, exhibition design, public installations, and temporary structures—introducing rhythm, multiplicity, and movement to transform static environments into immersive experiences.

Deepak Jawahar is an award-winning architect who has worked on significant cultural projects around the world for nearly a decade with leading international design studios in Amsterdam, Doha, Frankfurt, London, and Shanghai. He is co-founder and Design Director at The Architecture Story. He is currently pursuing a PhD at the European Graduate School, where he is exploring the role of architecture in contemporary society. His work has received widespread recognition, including prestigious accolades such as the Lexus Design Awards, Godrej Design Lab Prototype Award, and the Kyoorius Award.
Justine De Penning is a multidisciplinary designer who graduated from the Architectural
Association with a Masters in Spatial Performance and Design and the Royal College of Art with a Masters in Interior Design. Colours, movement and materials form a large part of Justine’s research. She is interested in experimenting with new materials as well as using traditional techniques of making to produce immersive spatial narratives.

Exhibition Design

Installation Design
We view installation design as an opportunity to disrupt the ordinary and reimagine public spaces. Our installations are conceptual narratives that invite participation and contemplation, transcending traditional boundaries of art and architecture. By experimenting with materials and forms, we create installations that challenge perceptions and activate the environment.
Interior Design
We explore the intersections between the intimate and the expansive. By meticulously selecting materials, colour palettes, and spatial configurations, we craft interiors that resonate with the essence of those who inhabit them, while responding to the practicalities of everyday life.
Research
Research at The Architecture Story is intrinsic to our practice, fuelling innovative design solutions grounded in critical inquiry. Our research is not merely a precursor to design; it is a continuous dialogue that shapes our projects. We incorporate AI into our workflow, enhancing our ability to streamline design processes, allowing us to create more informed and responsive architectural solutions.
Awards
LEXUS DESIGN AWARD
The Lexus Design Award International is a prestigious annual competition that recognises and supports innovative design concepts from across the globe. In 2016, Deepak Jawahar was one of the winners of this award, showcasing his design, the "Slow Door." This unique concept, which encourages mindful interaction, was exhibited at the renowned Salon del Mobile, Milan.
KYOORIUS DESIGN AWARD
The Kyoorius Design Awards is a celebrated platform that honours outstanding creative talent in the Indian design industry across various categories. In this prestigious competition, The Architecture Story won the coveted Blue Elephant Award in the Exhibition Design category for the project "Performing Intersections."
GODREJ PROTOTYPE WINNER
The Godrej Design Lab is an esteemed initiative that fosters young designers and innovative concepts in India, providing a platform for creativity and collaboration within the design community. In 2017, Deepak Jawahar's project "PRESS" was selected for this prestigious award, culminating in an exhibition at India Design ID.
